Kurz Event: Amanda Marcotte on "fake news"

On October 22, Brooklyn College looks forward to welcoming Amanda Marcotte of Salon to give the 2019 Herbert Kurz talk on "fake news." The speaker series brings guests to the College to educate on the limits and possibilities of the constitution in protecting politically unpopular minority groups. Ms. Marcotte will assess President Trump's unrelenting attacks on news organizations and journalists who provide him with unfavorable coverage and how his incendiary language has affected how media organizations and journalists do their jobs. At the same time, news that is actually falsified and meant to exacerbate social divisions is being fed to the American public by foreign adversaries such as Russia has flooded American social media, especially Facebook. Ms. Marcotte will also provide advice on how conscientious citizens can protect themselves against being fooled and manipulated by actual real fake news.
